Ripple, in short, XRP is a native currency of the Ripple Lab designed for cross-border payments. Like Bitcoin, it is pseudo-anonymous except for some measures users may employ.
2 years ago, Nikolaos Bougalis, head of the C++ team @ Ripple posted a statement in which he discusses plans for anonymizing Ripple.
The purpose of the proposal was to ensure that if blinded tags are used, an attacker who has access to all payment transactions will be unable to isolate a pair of transactions that refer to the same unblinded tag. This proposal strived to be secure, minimal, and performant; ideally, tag blinding should have been implemented as a single function call that does not significantly increase the time it takes to put together a transaction. Using a blinded tag should not make it any more difficult for the intended recipient to complete a transaction.
